HSMNA Announces Date and Homes for 2014 Home Tour Weekend

Home Tour 2014The Hollywood Santa Monica Neighborhood Association has selected five historic homes that will be showcased during its 23rd annual Home Tour. The art and architecture-filled weekend, which includes an art fair and auction party, benefits the Lindsley Park Community School, J.L. Long Middle School and REAL School Gardens.

The Home Tour will run from noon until 5:00 PM on Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27. Tickets are available for $15 at www.hsmna.org, at Curiosities (2025 Abrams Parkway) beginning April 1, or during the event at Lindsley Park, located at the corner of Lindsley Avenue and Tenison Memorial Drive.

Sunday’s tour will be accompanied by Art in the Park, a family-oriented art exhibit and fair that will feature local artists and vendors, fun entertainment and art activities for kids, and food and drink for the whole family from some of Dallas’ best food trucks. Also available will be a guided walking tour of the neighborhood’s unique historical sites departing at 1:30 PM. Both the tour and Art in the Park are free to all, and do not require a ticket to the home tour.

The Auction Party will be held at Rosine Hall at the Dallas Arboretum on Friday April 25 beginning at 7:30 PM. The party includes food, drinks, live music and the opportunity to bid on a fantastic collection of locally sourced items all while overlooking White Rock Lake and the Dallas skyline. Tickets for the auction party are $50 March 1 – March 31, and $60 on or after April 1st. Tickets are available at www.hsmna.org.

“The Hollywood Santa Monica Home Tour is a fantastic opportunity to see great examples of preserved Tudor architecture and speak with the people who lovingly restore and care for these historic homes, as well as help local kids by improving their education,” said Clifford Nichols, Hollywood Santa Monica Neighborhood Association President.

The five historic homes on this year’s tour are among only 750 homes that make up the exclusive enclave of the Hollywood Heights and Santa Monica subdivisions, believed to be one of the largest collections of stone-embellished Tudor revival cottages in the country. These homes are made more special by the fact that their historic details are protected by one of the few Conservation Districts in the city of Dallas.

The Little Free Library Comes to HSMNA!

LittleFreeLibrary

For those of you who have not heard, the LittleFreeLibrary.org is a great way to share both Kids and Adult books with your neighbors.  It’s a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share. You can, too!

Here is a 2 minute video put together to help you easily understand what the Little Free Library is all about.

We encourage you all to participate by stopping by the Little Free Library located on Sevilla between Cordova and Clermont!

Want to host a Little Free Library in your yard?  Check out the organization’s page of libraries to either purchase or get ideas of how to build one yourself.  When it’s up and running, send me an email (webmaster@hsmna.org) and I’ll make sure yours is listed as well.

See you at the library!

2013 Long Run!

JL_LongRun_2013

Lace up your running shoes and hit the pavement for the 2013 Long Run. The Long Run is JL Long’s only fundraiser and it’s a heart racing, foot stomping good time.

This year’s course introduces a new sprint along the serene Santa Fe Trail and meanders through the cool and eclectic Hollywood Heights/Santa Fe neighborhoods. The race begins and ends with cheering throngs of runners, neighbors, families and friends all united in the Buccaneer Spirit. Funds raised help pay for many of the “extras” not supplied by DISD like uniforms, school instruments, classroom supplies, scholarships and the little things that help teachers and students excel in their learning environments.

We’re all in this together and when we put one foot in front of the other there’s no limit to what we can do to propel our neighborhood IB Candidate School to the next level. So join us and put some fun into your run for a great cause.

Race Day Information:

October 17, 2013
Festivities begin @5:30
1-Mile Fun Run @ 6 pm
